From 15 to 17 May the 9th Alentejo Vine and Wine Symposium will take place in Évora. Neil Pendock and I have finished a wonderful & enriching 250+ blind tasting of supermarket available wines from Alentejo, retailing between 2 and 10 euros. Thanky you Dora, Tiago & CVRA crew. The Alentejo stands, by far, in the pole position of Portuguese wine consumers choices. Along with the cultural, food & natural unique heritage that will become ones best memory, we have visited Herdade das Servas (lovely Herdade das Servas, Old Vines, Red), Herdade dos Coelheiros (icon Tapada dos Coelheiros, Garrafeira, red) and Herdade do Esporão debuting the new winetourism center & restaurant mastered by young and surprising Chef Miguel Vaz and managed by enthusiastic and lovely Maria & Antonio Roquette.
The heat management over the vines will be widely discussed during the 9AVWS and results are much appreciated since the majority of Mediterranean wines, like in other warm wine regions, are legal and parsimoniously acidified. But make no mistake: in wines, natural icy freshness is one world apart from added citric sourness.
Natural acidity, as a key figure to wine typicality, will be addressed at the 9AVWS by me: “A CONTRIBUTION TO THE SENSORY PROFILE OF REGIONAL RED WINES FROM GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS OF MAINLAND PORTUGAL” will share the results of my MSc thesis. Thursday, 16th, afternoon, 9AVWS, Évora. See you there.
